What the TOEFL iBT® Test Costs in 2026: Test Fee, Score Reports, and Refunds
The TOEFL iBT® test fee by country, the four free score reports, every extra fee, and the deadlines that decide whether you pay them, from ETS's own fee list and 2026–27 Bulletin.
Updated October 27, 2026. Facts checked against ETS's official pages.
In short
- The test fee depends on where you test: US$280 in the United States and US$232 in South Korea on ETS's current fee list.
- The fee includes up to four score reports, but only for schools you choose by 10 p.m. (local test center time) the day before the test. After that, each report costs US$29.
- The fees you can avoid: US$49 for registering in the last 7 days, US$69 for rescheduling, and US$29 for each late score report.
- Cancel at least 4 full days before the test and you get 50% back. In Korea, you get everything back if you cancel within 7 days of registering.
The test fee
ETS charges a different fee in each country, always in U.S. dollars. Some examples from its fee list, last updated October 1, 2026:
| Where you test | Test fee |
|---|---|
| United States | US$280 |
| United Kingdom | US$270 |
| Canada | US$249 |
| Australia | US$293 |
| Germany | US$293 |
| South Korea | US$232 |
| Japan | US$195 |
| India | US$164 |
- Find your own on ETS's registration fees page by choosing your country. ETS changed the fee in many countries around October 1, 2026 (South Korea went from US$228 to US$232, the U.S. from US$270 to US$280), so older articles may show the old amounts.
- In most countries the fee includes tax. In some, including the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the EU countries, tax is added at checkout.
- You can pay in your ETS account by credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, and others), PayPal, Alipay, or e-check from a U.S. or Canadian bank account.
- The fee also gets you your scores in your ETS account, a PDF score report, and MyBest® scores, which combine your best section scores from your valid tests of the last two years.
Every other fee
From the "Other fees" table on ETS's fees page:
| Service | Fee | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Express registration | US$49 | Registering within 7 days of the test date |
| Rescheduling | US$69 | Moving your test, at least 4 full days before it |
| Additional score report | US$29 each | Each school beyond the free four, or chosen after the deadline |
| Score review, Speaking or Writing | US$80 | Within 30 days of the test, before you send scores anywhere |
| Score review, both sections | US$160 | Same as above |
| Reinstating canceled scores | US$20 | Within 60 days of the test, if you canceled your scores |
| Returned payment | US$30 | If your payment is declined or returned |
Some older ETS pages still say US$25 for an additional score report; ETS's current fee table says US$29. Mailed paper score reports with express shipping also cost extra, but ETS doesn't list the price.
Deadlines that save you money
- Register at least 7 full days before the test. After that you pay the US$49 express fee. Express online registration closes 2 days before the test date.
- Choose your four free score recipients by 10 p.m. the day before. You choose them before you see your scores, so pick the schools you're sure about. Adding them later costs US$29 each, and score report orders can't be changed or refunded.
- Reschedule or cancel at least 4 full days before. For a Saturday test, that's the Tuesday before. After that you can't get any money back. Changes are made in your ETS account or by phone, not by email or at the test center.
- Ask for a score review within 30 days, and before you send scores to any school. A review can raise or lower your score, and the new score becomes official.
Refunds
The refund rules are in ETS's 2026–27 TOEFL iBT Bulletin.
- If you cancel by the 4-day deadline, you automatically get 50% of the test fee back, to the payment method you used.
- If ETS cancels or reschedules your test, you pay no rescheduling fee and can get a full refund.
- Practice products bought from ETS can't be refunded once ordered.
If you test in South Korea
| When you cancel | Refund |
|---|---|
| 0–7 days after registering | 100% of the test fee |
| From day 8 until 4 days before the test | 50% |
| 3 or fewer days before the test, or later | No refund |
The cheapest way to avoid a retake
The most expensive cost on this page is a second sitting: the whole test fee again. What raises scores fastest is a short, focused stretch of practice on your weak task types, with proven mock tests that follow the 2026 format and score every section. Start with ETS's free practice tests, then use scored mock tests to find and fix your weak spots: on MockPrep the first full mock test is free and each one after costs US$3.75 to US$6. An example budget
A test in South Korea, with four schools chosen in time and no changes, costs US$232. Send scores to two more schools afterward and reschedule once, and it's US$232 + US$58 + US$69 = US$359. The deadlines above are what keep the total at the first number.
