How the new scores work
- Each section, and the test overall, gets a band from 1 to 6 in half-band steps, with a CEFR level from A1 to C2.
- The overall band is the average of the four section bands, rounded to the nearest half band. An average of 5.125 is reported as 5, and an average of 5.25 as 5.5. On the old scale, the total was the sum of the four section scores.
- For two years, new score reports also show a comparable 0–120 score: the midpoint of the band's range on the old scale. A 4.5 comes with a 90.
- Scores stay valid for two years, so schools will see both scales for a while. The tables compare the two scales; they don't turn an old score into an official new one.
