MockPrep

Frequently asked questions

How the mock tests, scoring, credits, and refunds work.

Is this the official TOEFL iBT® test?

No. MockPrep is an independent practice platform. It follows the format of the test introduced in January 2026, but it isn't made, endorsed, or approved by ETS, and its scores are estimates for practice.

How close is it to the real test?

Every task type, time limit, and screen follows the new format: adaptive Reading and Listening modules, Build a Sentence, Write an Email, Academic Discussion, Listen and Repeat, and Take an Interview. Scores use the same 1–6 band scale with CEFR levels.

How is my score worked out?

Reading and Listening are scored automatically, with the adaptive module counted the way the real test weighs it. Writing and Speaking are scored by AI against detailed rubrics, and spoken answers are transcribed and measured for pauses and pace. You get a band for each section and an explanation for every question.

What is a credit?

One credit starts one section test. A full mock test is 4 credits, one for each section. Your first full mock test is free when you sign up.

Can I take a test again?

Yes. Any set you've bought can be retaken for free. Reading and Listening retakes are scored again right away; detailed AI grading of a Writing or Speaking retake uses one credit.

What's the difference between test conditions and practice mode?

Under test conditions the clock never stops, as on test day: if you leave, it keeps running. In practice mode you can pause at any time, and the clock also stops while you're away from the test page.

What do I need for the Speaking section?

A microphone and an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, or Safari. You check your microphone before the section starts.

Are the speakers real people?

The voices are AI-generated, with a range of English accents as on the real test.

Do credits expire?

No. Credits stay in your account for as long as it's open.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Within 21 days of a purchase you can ask for a refund of the credits you haven't used, based on the price you paid. See the Refund Policy for details.

What happens to my recordings and essays?

They're stored privately and used only to score your tests and show your reports. Recordings play back only through short-lived private links, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time.

What is a full mock test?

All four sections in one sitting, in the order of the real test: Reading, Listening, Writing, then Speaking. It takes about 1½ hours and gives you a band for each section and an overall band. Full mock tests have their own questions, separate from section practice, and your first one is free.

How do invites work?

Share your invite link from your dashboard. When a friend signs up with it and finishes their free mock test, you both get another full mock test. You can earn up to two this way.
